How do I know if I need therapy?

If you’re struggling with persistent emotional, psychological, or interpersonal issues that affect your daily life and well-being, therapy may be beneficial. Common signs include prolonged feelings of sadness, anxiety, relationship problems, or difficulty coping with stress.

How frequent are therapy sessions, and for how long do they continue?

The frequency and duration of therapy sessions depend on your individual needs and goals. Initially, sessions may be weekly, and then they can be adjusted to bi-weekly or monthly as progress is made.

How can I choose the right therapist for me?

Finding the right therapist is a personal process. It’s important to consider factors like the therapist’s specialization, approach, personality, and your comfort level. We offer a free initial consultation to help you make an informed choice.

What can I expect during the first therapy session?

During your first session, your therapist will gather information about your concerns, goals, and personal history. This initial assessment helps in creating a customized treatment plan.

During the initial psychotherapy session, you can expect to work with the therapist to explore your presenting concerns, mental health history, relationships, as well as other areas of your life that may be impacting your wellness. You will have the space to share at a pace that feels comfortable to you. Closer to the end of the session, your therapist will work collaboratively with you to set therapeutic goals which will be worked on in subsequent sessions.

Based on your personal goals, you can expect to develop multiple skills and strategies to support your well-being. You will also develop greater awareness that will aid in recognizing any areas that may be holding you back. Your goals may change as your life and mental health evolves over time; therefore, the counsellor will check in with you to re-evaluate your goals as needed.

Can I only come to therapy if I have a diagnosis?

No, you do not need to have a specific diagnosis to seek therapy. Therapists are trained to work with a wide range of individuals, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis. Therapy is not solely for individuals with diagnosed mental health conditions; it is also a valuable support for those facing life challenges, relationship issues, stress, or who simply want to enhance their personal growth and self-awareness.
