Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship, providing a safe and trust-based environment for clients to openly share their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. All information you share with Soulace Therapy is kept strictly confidential and complies with directives within Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). However, it’s essential to be aware that there are certain limits to this confidentiality, which are designed to ensure the well-being of both the client and others involved. Below, we outline the key limits of confidentiality in psychotherapy:

  1. Harm to Self or Others: Therapists have a duty to break confidentiality if a client poses a risk of harm to themselves or others. This may involve suicidal ideation, homicidal thoughts, or any behavior that could endanger someone’s well-being.
  2. Child or Vulnerable Adult Abuse: Therapists are mandated reporters, meaning they must report any suspicion of child or vulnerable adult abuse, neglect, or endangerment to the appropriate authorities.
  3. Court Orders: In certain legal situations, therapists may be required to share confidential information as mandated by a court order. This might occur in cases involving custody disputes, criminal investigations, or legal proceedings.
  4. Abuse by a Regulated Healthcare Professional: If another regulated healthcare professional (i.e. doctor, nurse, social worker etc.) is found to be harming the client, the mental health professional has a duty to report it to their regulating college.
  5. Supervision and Consultation: Therapists often engage in supervision or consultation with peers to ensure the quality of care. In such cases, client information is shared in a de-identified and confidential manner.

Please note that in all the above instances, your therapist will do their best to have a conversation with you about their concerns before any action is taken.

Cancellation Policy

At Soulace Therapy, we are committed to providing our clients with the highest quality of care and support. In order to maintain a consistent and effective schedule while ensuring that we can accommodate as many clients as possible, we have established the following cancellation policy:

  1. Cancellation Notice: Clients are kindly requested to provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for any appointment cancellation or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the vacated appointment time to another client in need of our services.
  2. Late Cancellation and No-Show Policy:
    • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are considered late cancellations.
    • If you fail to attend a scheduled appointment without prior notice, it is considered a “no-show” and you will incur the full cost of the session time (see costs above)
    • Late Cancellation and No-Show fees will be billed to the client’s account and must be paid before scheduling any future appointments.
  3. Exceptions:
    • Exceptions may be made in the case of emergencies, severe illness, or unforeseen circumstances. We ask that clients contact our clinic as soon as possible to discuss any exceptional situations.
  4. Clinician Cancellation:
    • In the rare event that your therapist must cancel an appointment, we will make every effort to reschedule the appointment at your convenience, and no fees will be charged.

If you have any questions or need to discuss your specific situation, please feel free to reach out to us!
